Below are answers to some of the most common questions customers ask about our locksmith services. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to call, text, or email us directly.

Automotive

  • Can you make a car key if I’ve lost all of mine?

Yes. Viking Lock Service specializes in all keys lost situations. We can generate and program 90% of cars on the road today.

  • Can you make a key from my VIN number?

Technically yes, but in practice we don’t have to. We have skills and training that allow us to do the job without 3rd party involvement.

  • Do you program smart keys, fobs, or push-to-start remotes?

We do all sorts of keys. From your basic mechanical and transponder turn keys, to smart/prox remotes and keyless entry.

  • Can you make keys for motorcycles? Which brands?

We do most Asia-imported brands, some Euro and some domestic. We are always evolving, so feel free to reach out for an estimate.

  • Do you work on European cars like BMW, Mercedes, or Audi?

We are able to generate and program keys on a lot of Euro cars. Some may require more steps, but we have procedures in place to help our customers get back on the road.

  • What info do I need to give you to make a car key?

From the onset, we only need to know year, make, and model, whether it’s a turn key to start or push-to-start, and if you have a working key or not. From there we may ask a few more questions to provide the most accurate quote.

  • How long does it take to make a new car key?

Sometimes as little as 20 minutes, sometimes longer than 2 hours.

  • Do I need to tow the car to you, or do you come to me?

We are 100% mobile. No tow needed — we come to you, saving you money and wear on your vehicle.

  • Can you delete old keys from the system so they won’t work anymore?

Older programmed keys can be deleted at the customer’s discretion, and some vehicles require it.

Residential / Light Commercial

  • Do I need to replace my locks, or can you just rekey them?

Most of the time we can rekey your lock, which is replacing the 'pins' that are manipulated by your key. Much more cost-effective, especially if you have expensive locks.

  • How long does a typical rekey take?

Depending on the size of the job, usually 45 minutes to 2 hours.

  • What’s the difference between rekeying and changing a lock?

Changing a lock means buying and installing new hardware. Rekeying keeps your existing locks and only replaces the security part.

  • Can you unlock my house if I’m locked out?

We sure can. We specialize in NOT DRILLING. If another locksmith jumps to drilling, it’s likely a scam. They’ll drill your lock and upcharge for a cheap replacement.

  • Can you make all my locks use the same key?

We can, and we do that a lot. The convenience of one key for your whole home is a wonderful thing.

  • Do you install smart locks or keypad locks?

This is another service we love to provide. Professional installation of new hardware.

  • Can you rekey a lock if I don’t have the key for it?

We can. We have tools and training that allow us to take the lock apart and rekey it to work with a new or existing key.

  • Do you offer locksmith services for businesses?

We absolutely do. We rekey businesses during employee turnover or if someone loses a key. We can help with basic hardware issues and replacements as needed.
